5 things to do when you get your Avaris eBike

You’ve got your brand new eBike and you’re eager to get out on the road, but there are a few things Avaris recommend you do before you get your helmet on!

Insure your Avaris eBike

The first step when receiving your new Avaris eBike is to make sure it is protected and insured. We understand when first receiving your bike you will be eager to begin riding, however, with a bike at this price it is worth getting considering insurance. We do offer our Avaris eBikes at more affordable prices compared to other brands however, this is still a luxury product at risk of being stolen.

How do I insure my Avaris eBike?

Firstly, we would recommend going to Moneysupermarket.com so you can compare a range of different quotes and find what works best for you. By clicking on the link above you will be able to directly compare eBike insurance companies. They will ask you a range of questions such as where you will be using your eBike, what for, in addition to the type of things you would like covered by the insurance e.g personal injury, public liability, theft etc. You will then get a range of quotes offered by different brands to choose from. You can then find more details on each quote until you decide on one.

After deciding on a company to get your Avaris eBike insured with you can then go to the insurance company’s website and fill out further details about your bike and the different options you would like. You’ll be given a final quote to which you have the option of inputting your card details to start paying a monthly insurance fee. Most companies will have their own procedures if insurance is needed to be claimed so make sure you go through these procedures before making your final decision, also note them down for when you may need to claim insurance in the future.

Download the Vinka app

Secondly, once your Avaris eBike arrives we recommend you download the ‘Vinka’ app. This app will specifically work alongside your Avaris eBike so you can see all the information you need on your phone.

When opening the app for the first time you will need to sign up and make an account. After you can pair the app with your eBike. Once paired you will be able to see a range of information on the main menu ranging from:

Km/h – This will show you the speed you are currently going on your bike. Currently, the top speed the motor supports is anything up to 25Km/h anything above this and the motor will be automatically turned off and your e-Bike will be driven by pedalling alone.

RPM – This is the rate at which the cyclist is turning the pedals as they ride. Typically the average rate is around 60-90RPM yet more advanced riders can go anywhere between 90-110RPM

Power – This shows the amount of power the motor is using, this meter will often change depending on outdoor conditions as well as the route you take as less or more motor power may be needed.

Battery – This shows how much charge your Avaris eBike currently has. We also recommend fully charging your battery before using it the first time. You can learn more about your Avaris eBike battery through our guide by just clicking on the link.

Once you have set up the app, you can begin a new route and then once finished you can pause/stop this route and take a look at the statistics. These statistics will include, duration, length of trip, altitude etc.

Check your cycling gear or buy new

Next up on our list is to ensure you have the correct cycling gear, if you already have cycling gear make sure it is in good condition to be used. Basic cycling equipment includes cycling shorts, a cycling jersey, a water bottle, spare inner tube and a pump.

Cycling Shorts – Cycling shorts are a must-have item before setting off. Especially if you are planning on doing long routes. The padding helps your glutes become less uncomfortable after a long period of being on the seat. In addition to being the perfect fabric for cycling as well due to the elasticity and non-sweat design. You easily find a pair of cycling shorts online for as little as £20.

Cycling Jersey – Much like shorts, a cycling jersey is recommended for longer routes. The material used is sweat-resistant therefore, whilst you’re riding your Avaris eBike sweat off your body easily perspires into the air so you can continue riding without any discomfort. Cycling jerseys can be a little more expensive ranging from £30-£40.

Water Bottle – A common essential is always a water bottle. It is important to stay hydrated whilst you are doing your routes no matter if they are long or short. Although many people may already own a water bottle it is always a good idea to check the condition and decide whether it is worth purchasing a new one as they can range from a lot of prices but can be as cheap as £10 or less.

Spare Inner Tube – If you know that you will be using your eBike quite often once it arrives or is planning on doing long routes it is a good idea to purchase a spare inner tube. Our Avaris eBikes use Kenda tyres and are built for tough surfaces and should last a long time. When trying to find the correct inner tube look on the sidewall of the tyre and there should be numbers such as ‘700x23c’ indicating what type of bike the tyres are for. Inner tubes can be found for as little as £4.

Pump – When going on long routes or through a city, there can always be sharp objects on the floor which can affect your tyres so we definitely recommend having a pump on hand. Moreover, after using your Avaris eBike for a long period of time we recommend checking your types and topping with air if needed. This will also make your routes safer if the tyres have the correct amount of air inside them. Mini cycle pumps can be found for £6 and are ideal for taking on the road. A floor pump is a bit more expensive ranging from £20-£30 but they are definitely recommended for when topping up your tyres at home.

Plan your cycle route

If you are new to cycling and not sure what routes are best to take, here is an easy way to plan this out beforehand.

By downloading an app called ‘Strava’ you can easily plan and track the routes you take in your area. It is currently rated the #1 application for both hikers & cyclists and there is both a free or subscription option available. Yet if you are planning to go out quite often the subscription is recommended at just £4/month. There is a 1-month free trial so you can try all the premium options before you make a choice.

Even as a free option the app is still extremely useful as it tracks the routes you take so you can repeat them again. In addition to tracking your time as well. It even adds you to a ‘time’ leaderboard to others who have taken the same route.

Go out and have fun!

Finally, the most important thing is to make sure you have fun! We hope that your Avaris eBike can take you on all sorts of adventures and we would love to join you on the ride! Share your cycling adventures with us through our Instagram and Facebook!
